As discourse is a mix of expression and content, these two elements have always been of great concern to literary critics and rhetoricians .In Arab literature, most of the critics of the past believed in the separation of expression and content, giving the originality to expression. In other words ,they depended the virtue of the discourse to the virtue of its expression. But Abdul Ghader Jorjani changed this trend in his Dalel-ol-E jaz (The reasons of the miracle) emphasizing on this point that expression and content could not he separated , he gave the originality to content. He argued that expression could not be described as eloquent, out of the framework of content and order. In this article I am to examine the views of Abu Helal Askary, one of the advocates of the ancient point of view, through his book Assena atain(Figures of Speech) , and then , explain Abdul Ghader s theory.
