John Keats(1795-1821) British Romantic poet was self-taught. Suffering from consumption he died in Italy. In his short life he wrote more than 60 poems. "To Autumn" is accepted to be the best among his odes. In three stanzas, the sights and the sounds of the Autumn, are presented. The poem is structured in time and shows progression both in the season and the day. The usage of Metaphor, Alliteration, Repetition, Illustration, Onomatopaeia and Personification have enriched the structure of the poem. Autumn is personified as female and the sun is the male, and out of their union the great fertility and fruitfulness have come into existence. Birth, Life and Death are
implicitly standing as a deeper theme of the poem. The conclusion bestows a farewell choir by the participation of the farm creatures.
The atmosphere of the sunset and the evening is sad
yet tranquil with the soft colours and changes to be Heavenly Holy.
