There are some definitions offered for historcal
geography
such as:
1. A study of past societies in their spatial dimension.
2. A study of relationships between man and his environment
in the past as wel1 as changes in his relationships in time and so on.
The study of historical geography in the world is undertaken on a very large scale, whether measured by the numbers of geographers, travel1ers, voyagers. and discoverers, and etc. involved.
The study of historical geography has been divided in three
sections:
First before the middle age, which it has been written by author, in the journal of the faculty of letters and human sciences, university of Tehran, consecutive issues.117.118. 1992. P.165.
Second, historical geograhy in the middle age. (6th - 12th
century).
In this essay, the actions of geograhy travel1ers, discoverers, and etc. have been considered in separately during, 6th - 12th century.
It has been considered that more than any other, the Muslim geographers have been indued with their geographical knowleges in the middle ages. although chinese, Indian, Japanese, and European geographers have done important actions, general1y in the begining of the middle ages and particularly the European geographers in the end of middle ages.
