Abstract

Jami's Baharestan like Saadi' s Golestan has been compiled in prose with Persian and Arabic verses. It is reckoned one of the pleasant and melodious Persian prose type among the others. Jami' s purpose to compile it was the simplification of Saadi' s method of writing. Accordingly, more than whatever is expected, J ami's composition is inclined to follow simplicity perhaps one of the compiler's inclinations was the allocation of the book for instructing his son. The book of Baharestan has an introduction, eight rozah (=chapters) and a conclusion. In the beginning of the book, Jami reminds the readers as his son, Ziaa-al-Din Yusef occupied himself with learning literary techniques, so he prepared this book for him and wrote it in the style of Golestan and presented it to king Hossain Baiqara.
Baharestan includes high moral themes and useful instructions for.Iife.
Baharestan, in comparison with Golestan, has more versified speech. Because of J ami's educative taste, some jesting subjects have been assembled that makes the reader becoming astonished and wavering. Some writing and literary characters of Baharestan are as follows:
verses of the Quran and Hadiths, proverbs and wisdom, rhetorical figure of speech such as pun and contrast and different kinds of metaphors, using rare grammatical rules, relying upon Arabic and Persian verses and containing excellent persian words and compounds. In addition, it is to be noticed that Baharestan has various matters and tales such as historical, literary and jesting stories, states and sayings of munificents and generouses and poets and etc.
