Abstract

The article studies the critical values and specialities of modern Arabic poetry, according to the great Arab poets, critics and literary groups and schools, of which al-Diwan, Appollo and al-Tajdid (renewal) groups and Arabic romantists and symobolists are the most important onse. First, it discusses the quality of inspiration in the poetry and describes the different philosophical and literary views in this subject. Then the concept of the poetry and its aim are discussed in detail based on the opinion of the Arab literarymen and critics, mentioned above.
The music of the poetry-rhythm and rhyme - and the modern Arabic prosody are also explained in the same way and new forms of poetry-such as free verse, blank verse, modawwar qasideh - and modern prosodic idioms-such as tanwile and tashkil - are qualified.
