The poems which were left for us from the pre - Islamic period are the earliest poems about hunting. At those days hunting was one of the objects of the pre - Islamic "qasida”.
The characteristics of the “taradiyya” changed according to the envirornmenl and circumstances. In the pre - Islamic and Umayyad periods these characteristics changed greatly. At the end of the second century of al - Hejra .Abu Nuwas made it completely independant and became known as “Taradiyya”. In the Abbasid period we can see influence of Iranian culture and civilization in the type of poetry. We notice many Iranian words and names in Arabicised forms in this type of poetry.
The poets chose the metre “Rajaz” for this kind of poetry because its quickness suited the scene of hunting.
