In this article, giving a partial account of Abu- Tamam' s life, I have tried to make a quick and at the same time scrupulous study of his book of poetry.
Among the different themes of his poetry "Description" is the most prominent feature that reflects his poetic genius. His power of imagination and his gift of precision and meticulousness have made him an outstanding portraitist and a gifted descriptive poet. The numerous descriptive pieces in his poetic works have added much value to his poetry, and this also proves that he is gifted with great precision and profound insight. On the other hand, it won't be exaggerating to say that in all his poetic themes "description" is the essence and the underlying element of his poetry. To him description is nothing, but "sense impressions" in such a way that the source and the target of description are senses.
The poet, with detailed accounts, has thosen a number of words to present different pictures from the object of description. He has used a number of phrases to give more expression and clarity to his word pictures, reflecting their different forms and colours.
