L.N Tolstoy’s last novel “Resurrection” is a social and philosophical work which the writer worked on for tell years. “Resurrection” strongly criticizes the main hero of the novel, Dmitry Ivanovich Nackaladov. While describing him the writer also shows the social problems during the years of the 1880s and 1890s in Russia.
This article starts with a history of the formation of the theme for this novel which was inspired by a read court case and also the name “Resurrection” can be
derived from the fact that this novel starts by describing nature.
This article then goes on to compare the main hero of this novel with the heros of Tolstoy’s other novels “War and Peace”, “Anna Karenina”, “Haji Morad”, and “Family Happiness”. Ii also explains how Nachaladov’s inner transformation began in reaching his filial goal, the highest degree of human thought and being and in finding the very roots of happiness in living for and love for others.
